The stone-built farmhouse with attached
barn (total 400m²) has a red tiled roof (a charming architectural feature
of this region), wonderful original wooden beams, and an amazing unique wood
and "chaux" dividing wall.
Entering the farmhouse at groundfloor, there
is a large 30m² room with two smaller rooms off. Stairs lead to the first
floor landing which has three rooms off (similar configuration). Other stairs
lead to the attic room with ample space.
From first floor house level
there is access to the huge barn area. Outside doors also lead into the barn.
The property has a light and airy feel and has bags of potential - for
example, conversion of part of the building into a separate gite.
The
large garden with its little stream has a number of beautiful mature trees.
The property is in a prominent position, commanding splendid views of
the surrounding valley and the Pyrenees.
The building is on a quiet "D" road between the villages of St Pierre de Riviere and Brassac. The small
village called Record is just down the road and the property itself has only
two neighbours, one adjacent and the other across the road.
It is
ideally situated in the countryside in one of the prettiest valleys I have ever
seen. The much sought after picturesque Vallee Barguillere is full of
gentle-shaped rolling hills with lots and lots of desciduous and coniferous
trees - autumn is a real treat!
On the practical side, all amenities
and secondary schools are within about 5km, with a village junior school at
approximately 2km (a schoolbus is provided). Also locally and conveniently,
there are amenities such as a baker, a grocer who sells almost everything
including meat, a petrol station and repair garage, a couple of local friendly
bars, plus a hotel with lovely food and good service.
The l'Ariege
region is varied and stunning, hence the creation of a Regional Park area with
breathtaking views. Foix is the local administrative centre for the region and
boasts a fabulous castle steeped in history. The town, with its old quarter, is
the setting for an annual drama extravaganza complete with fireworks.
Throughout each summer there are music and film festivals, art exhibitions, and
many other events, including part of the Tour de France cycle race.
If
you and family and friends are keen on skiing, the ski stations are just down
the road at Ax les Thermes and Tarrascon, and of course further into the
Pyrenees.
Toulouse and Carcassonne airports are equi-distant from Foix
and the journey takes approximately one and a quarter hours. Trips to and from
the UK are extremely easy to make and there are lots of low cost
flights. |
