Converted three / four bedroom stone mill house with

of garden, meadow and forest on the border of the Dordogne and Haute Vienne in
France

Stone mill house, circa 1900, with two attached
barns, a small outbuilding and ruin of the former mill, idyllically situated on
5.35 hectares of gardens, meadows and forest.
The house was
featured in the August 2001 edition of Country Homes and Interiors magazine. It
has been sympathetically renovated to retain its original features, although is
still has plenty of scope for further development, and offers spacious
accommodation over three floors.
On the ground floor there is a bedroom
with fireplace and built-in original oak and chestnut wardrobe, bathroom with
claw-foot bath, and a large kitchen / dining room featuring an enormous
fireplace, stone bench with wooden bench-top, beautiful stone floor, oak beams
and French doors.
An oak staircase leads to two spacious rooms on the
first floor, one with fireplace and offering lovely views of the river and
property from each window. Wide oak floorboards and exposed timber in the
dividing wall, plus exposed stone on the back wall and oak beams lend an
abundance of rustic character to these rooms.
Another oak staircase
leads to the attic, offering a further two bedrooms with exposed timber
framework and a toilet / shower room.
Terraced areas surrounding the
house are perfect for barbeques and entertaining, with lovely gardens,
including a large vegetable patch and various fruit and nut trees.
The
barns offer potential for further accommodation or holiday apartments if
converted.
The house is very soundly and solidly constructed with 80cm
thick walls, a good roof and is south-facing.
The property is bordered
by a beautiful river, perfect for fishing, which divides the departments of
Haute Vienne and Dordogne.
There is also a well on the property and the
in-ground pool with Roman end measures 10 x 15 metres.
The land is very
picturesque with silver-barked poplars lining the river bank and large
chestnut, oak, cherry and birch trees in the forest. The fields are lush and
green year-round a paradise for animal and nature lovers.
The
house is completely isolated with no neighbours, but the well serviced town of
St-Yrieix-la-Perche with large supermarkets, schools, good restaurants, weekly
market, hospital and health services, cinema, cultural centre and diverse
shops, is only 7km away, while the cities of Limoges and Périgueux are
40km and 65km easy drive respectively.
There is a phone line to the
property and broadband ADSL Internet. We also have mains electricity and water.
The area is very popular with
tourists and there are countless chateaux and places of interest in the region.
Limoges airport, serviced by budget airline Ryan Air, offers daily flights to
London Stansted.
This region is friendly and welcoming and it is a very
safe environment in which to live. We have found it surprisingly easy to
establish a large circle of friends and contacts in this active community. It
is with regret that we are leaving France to return to Germany due to the
increasing commitment which our business demands. |
